The 2009 Impala is a 4-door, up to 6-passenger family sedan, or sports sedan, available in 5 trims, ranging from the LS to the SS.

Upon introduction, the LS is equipped with a standard 3.5-liter, V6, 211-horsepower, flexible fuel engine that achieves 19-mpg in the city and 29-mpg on the highway. The SS is equipped with a standard 5.3-liter, V8, 303-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 24-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
